HDK Accuses NICE Company of Illegal Toll Collection, Targets Karnataka Govt

Bengaluru: Union Minister and JD(S) leader H. D. Kumaraswamy has launched a sharp attack on the Karnataka government over toll collection by the Nandi Economic Corridor Enterprises (NICE).

Kumaraswamy alleged that under the NICE Scheme Framework Agreement, the company was required to construct 111 km of road, but has completed only around 5 km. He questioned how the company could continue collecting tolls from motorists without completing the stipulated road network.

He accused the Karnataka government of remaining silent on the issue and alleged that the administration had “joined hands” with NICE. Kumaraswamy further claimed that the government was attempting to acquire the company despite what he described as a history of irregularities.

Referring to judicial scrutiny, he said the Karnataka High Court has also raised questions regarding the matter. He urged citizens, particularly students and young people, to question what he described as an instance of “daylight robbery.”

The allegations come amid a long-running dispute surrounding the NICE corridor, its contractual obligations, land acquisition and toll collection. NICE has previously defended its project and operations against various allegations.

The Karnataka government and NICE are yet to respond specifically to Kumaraswamy's latest allegations. Further legal and administrative developments are expected.
