Former PM H.D. Deve Gowda Wife Chennamma Passes Away; PM Modi Condoles

Bengaluru: Smt. Chennamma Deve Gowda, wife of former Prime Minister H. D. Deve Gowda and mother of Union MinisterH. D. Kumaraswamy, passed away, leaving Karnataka’s political fraternity in mourning.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences, offering prayers for the departed soul and extending sympathies to the bereaved family. In his message, the Prime Minister acknowledged Chennamma’s unwavering support to the Deve Gowda family throughout decades of public service and prayed that the family finds strength during this difficult time.

Chennamma remained largely away from public life but was regarded as a pillar of support to H.D. Deve Gowda during his long political career. She is survived by her husband, children, and extended family.

Leaders from across the political spectrum, including members of the Janata Dal(Secular), BJP, Congress, and other parties, have expressed grief over her demise and conveyed their condolences to the family.

Her last rites are expected to be held in Karnataka with family members, political leaders, and supporters paying their final respects.
