Reliance to Invest in New U.S. Oil Refinery - President Trump says in Announcement
U.S. President Donald Trump has announced that India’s energy giant Reliance Industries Limited will invest in building a major oil refinery project in the United States, marking a significant development in energy cooperation between the two countries.
"America is returning to REAL ENERGY DOMINANCE! Today I am proud to announce that America First Refining is opening the FIRST new U.S. Oil Refinery in 50 YEARS in Brownsville, Texas. THIS IS A HISTORIC $300 BILLION DOLLAR DEAL -- THE BIGGEST IN U.S. HISTORY, A MASSIVE WIN for American Workers, Energy, and the GREAT People of South Texas! Thank you to our partners in India, and their largest privately held Energy Company, Reliance, for this tremendous Investment," he said.
According to the announcement, the proposed refinery is expected to strengthen U.S. refining capacity and support domestic fuel production. Trump described the investment as a sign of strong economic ties between India and the United States, highlighting its potential to create jobs and boost industrial activity.
Officials said the refinery project could also help process imported crude more efficiently while enhancing supply security for the American fuel market. While detailed investment figures and timelines have not yet been publicly disclosed, industry observers say the project could be among the largest overseas energy investments by an Indian company.
Reliance, controlled by Indian billionaire Mukesh Ambani, already operates one of the world’s largest refining complexes in Jamnagar, giving the company extensive experience in large-scale refining operations.
Energy analysts say the proposed refinery could further deepen strategic energy cooperation between India and the U.S., especially at a time when global fuel markets are undergoing major shifts due to geopolitical tensions and changing trade patterns. Further details regarding location, capacity, and regulatory approvals are expected in the coming months.
