R Ashoka Alleges Land Allotment to Bangladeshis in Kogilu, Warns of Protests
On the rehabilitation of people displaced by Kogilu demolition drive, BJP leader & LoP R Ashoka says, "In Bangalore, more than 20 acres of land have been distributed to the Bangladeshi people. We protested. We held a rally against the Kogilu incidents to give land to Bangladeshi citizens. That's a big issue... I have already proved they are Bangladeshis. Not even a single site should be given to the Bangladeshi people. The land belongs to the Bangalore City Corporation for debris, not for any other use. They are changing their law to give land to 40 members... Bangalore has become a garbage city under the Congress-ruled government... I demand that the government not give any site in Kogilu; otherwise, we will protest, and we will do the protest against the government."
Leader of Opposition R. Ashoka has alleged that land in Kogilu, North Bengaluru, is being allotted to “Bangladeshi nationals” displaced during a recent demolition drive, sparking a fresh political row in Bengaluru.
Ashoka claimed that over 20 acres of land belonging to the civic body was being distributed and said his party had already staged protests against the move. He asserted that the land is designated for debris management under the city corporation and should not be repurposed for rehabilitation.
“I have already proved they are Bangladeshis. Not even a single site should be given,” he said, warning that the Bharatiya Janata Party would intensify protests if the government proceeds with the allotment.
The BJP leader also criticized the ruling Indian National Congress in Karnataka, accusing it of mismanagement and alleging that Bengaluru has deteriorated under its governance.
The remarks come in the backdrop of the Kogilu demolition drive, where several families were displaced following action against alleged encroachments. However, there has been no official confirmation from government authorities supporting the claim that land is being allotted specifically to foreign nationals.
Officials are yet to issue a detailed response, and the issue is expected to escalate politically in the coming days.
